Proofreading

Whenever you send out a project to be considered …you want to banish all those little errors that will hurt your chances for publication.

Hiring a proofreader can help.

An experienced proofreader reads your project, marking such errors as grammar, punctuation, and word usage. The notes are confined to errors rather than fact-checking or offering advice on how to improve the writing/storytelling. (For help with improving the quality of your work, see our Doctoring service.)

Proofreading is available for any kind of written work.

To begin, fill out the form at the bottom of the page, attaching two pages of your work, and giving us the total word count. Then we will calculate the number of hours it will take and give you a price; the number of hours depends on the word count and the amount of attention the work will require.

Rate: $75 per hour

Moving forward, you send us your document. The proofreading happens digitally in a Word doc or Google Doc—whichever works best for you.

When the proofing is done, your proofreader will send the document back to you with all errors clearly marked and with suggested corrections. The proofreader will also attach a brief note with tidbits of advice. Once you’ve gone through the proofreader’s work, you may follow up with questions via email.
