Step 1:
Make a list of scenes, anecdotes, images, memories, or story ideas that you dismissed almost immediately after the idea to write about them floated up in your mind. Write down as many as you can remember.
Step 2:
Choose one from the above list. In the left-hand column below, list the reasons you gave for not writing about it. In the right-column, list a reason in favor of writing about it.
For each entry on the left, you must include an entry on the right.
Step 3:
Write your scene, story, or idea, and open with a sentence that starts, “I’ve been meaning to tell you for awhile now...”
Set a timer for 10 minutes. Begin.
